Nottingham vs. Oldham
A relegation game today for Notts v Oldham. A big performance was needed if we are to stand a chance of staying up this season. In the 1st quarter it seemed like it would be a tough day, with Oldham fighting well and scoring with most shots. The defence was a little slack and sliding to sticks instead of body. Two well taken goals from Luke Johnstone and one from Matt Marsh kept us in the hunt, but a score of 3-5 to the visitors at the end of Q1 wasnt the start we wanted.
Second quarter saw more hard work from the dependable Tom Giddings and better possession from Notts, and some quality (and a couple of slightly lucky) goals from Marsh meant Notts were able to pull 2 ahead at the end of the half 7-5 Notts.
Third quarter saw the Notts attack play some better stuff, better movement and cutting Let Dave Jordan in for his 1st which Just crept over the sticky goal line. Some frustration from Oldham led to them being man down frequently and Notts capitalized on this. 10-6 Notts.
Notts made sure that they did not become complacent in the 4th as it was still a game we could lose. An early goal from Oldham could have been a warning however the whole team pulled together and put the game beyond Oldham within the 1st 10 mins. Frustration got the better of some Oldham players and a couple seemed to give up. Notts pushed hard till the end and finished well. Final score 16-8
